The On Demand Experience
715 teams from all five continents and 95 different countries participated in the 2011 eVolo Skyscraper Competition. This entry, the On Demand Experience, was awarded an Honorable Mention.
Imagine a day where you are video conferencing, playing golf, working out, having a face to face meeting with your physician, watching a movie on a giant screen and hanging out with some friends in a bar, without ever leaving your apartment on the 20th floor. Wouldn’t that be great? Well, it’s possible: the On Demand Experience. The hub in your professional and social life.
What is the concept?
The concept of the On Demand Experience is simple. Instead of going to different facilities and services, like the gym, the facilities and services come to you! Simply request a facility or service by a smartphone or (tablet-) computer. This request will than be processed by the Warehouse, connected to your apartment building. The facility or service will then be transported from the Warehouse to the apartment in a so-called box, through a large freight elevator.
When your box, for example a gym-box, arrives, it can be used immediately! The boxes can be changed in order to meet your wishes. Several boxes can dock in a single apartment at the same time. And everything is available On Demand. So if you would like to play golf, work out or have a lunch meeting, just let the Warehouse know!
With a future perspective, it’s possible to connect a series skyscrapers, or even an entire city, with one large warehouse. The possibilities are endless.

The annual eVolo Skyscraper Competition is a forum for the discussion, development, and promotion of innovative concepts for vertical density. It examines the relationship between the skyscraper and the natural world, the skyscraper and the community, and the skyscraper and the city.
The competition is also an investigation on the public and private space and the role of the individual and the collective in the creation of a dynamic and adaptive vertical community.
