The America’s Cup is a trophy awarded to the winner of the America’s Cup match races between two yachts. One yacht, known as the defender, represents the yacht club who currently holds the America’s Cup and the second yacht, known as the challenger, represents the yacht club who is challenging for the cup. The America’s Cup is the oldest active trophy in international sport.
During the first week of August, the inaugural America’s Cup World Series (AC World Series) took place in the port city of Cascais, Portugal, a location world-famous for its spectacular sailing conditions.
The event was held on the 6th to the 14th of August and showcased the AC45 wing-sailed catamaran in its first-ever competition.
